SAFE CLEANING PROCEDURES FOR TRUCK MOUNTED MIXING DRUMS

Concrete operators are being instructed to "review their current risk assessment and safe system of work for cleaning the interior of truck mounted mixing drums".

SAFE SYSTEM OF WORK

Operators must be provided with adequate

information, instruction and training, and the correct equipment for the job. Adequate control measures must be in place and the work activity supervised.

Key considerations include:

  • Confined Space Entry

  • Effective Isolation & Lockout

  • Drum Access Hatches

  • Emergency Procedures

  • Dust

  • Noise and Vibration

  • Falling Concrete

  • Temperature

  • Lighting

  • PPE

  • Permit to Work

Concrete Operators should eliminate the need to enter the mixing drum to perform cleaning activities where possible.

Concrete Operators MUST consider whether this work can be completed without the need for entry into the mixer - this is the safest and preferred option.

BEST PRACTICE

Technology is now available that eliminates the requirement for individuals to enter the mixer drum to remove hardened concrete; DRUMBLASTER is an automated system that will clean the inside of your concrete drums by initiating multiple water jets to remove any waste before it hardens.

As well as providing a SAFE CLEANING PROCEDURE FOR TRUCK MOUNTED MIXING DRUMS, DRUMBLASTER will:

  • Reduce chipping costs

  • Reduce/alleviate concrete build up

  • Control the variables

  • Reduce Tare Weight

  • Increase capacity and productivity

  • Give you a competitive edge

  • Enable your drums to carry their full load

  • Provide peace of mind for you and your drivers
