It was once common practice to wash off concrete chutes and equipment into a ditch onsite. This harmful practice was catastrophic for the environment due to the high pH of the water that was being released into the ecosystem.
Over time washing out into a plastic lined skip became the typical method and is still used by some today. However, this poses many problems of it's own;
Compliance
pH Treatment
Discharge
Spillages
Pollution
Waste management
Legislation
The Environmental Agency released their guidance for dealing with concrete wash water onsite, which can be viewed here - Treating and using water containing concrete at construction sites: RPS 287 - GOV.UK.
This is further broken down and explained by us here -
So how did we solve these issues?
Our CWS concrete Washout System only needs to be filled (with clean water) once at the start of the job due to it's closed loop system; using the attached hose to wash off equipment into our specialised Adsorption Sacks, solids and cementitious particles are retained while the effluent percolates through and is automatically pumped back into the systems holding tanks for re-use. pH can be easily treated using KT Neutraliser to maintain a neutral pH throughout usage or KT Reducer to neutralise the pH prior to discharge. This indefinite use reduces waste of wash water substantially and this means;
Wash water is easy to store and treat
Huge savings on consumables (less waste water to treat)
Greatly reduced risk of spillages leading to pollution
Time saved on sourcing and handling water
Compliance with Environmental agency regulations
A CWS Ultra in use:
How did we make the CWS even better?
After revolutionising the way concrete washout should be done on all sites, big or small, we were straight back to the drawing board looking to make our system even better and more convenient to use. As a result, the CWS ultra was born with;
Automatic pH dosing to save time on treatment
A high volume pump for optimum hose pressure
An increased 1000ltr capacity
Heart set on a washout tray?
Our trays are simple but effective with:
Fork pockets on three sides
Retaining pins for easy tipping
Lifting eyes on each corner
Available in standard, tapered and XL
No power? No problem.
We have multiple systems that operate completely without a power source such as:
Single and double sack frames
GWS washout
Washout trays
